Selecting the Perfect Paint Color:
- Start by having an idea/direction for your space in mind. If that means bringing in your favorite accessory or magazine clipping to help you, do it.
- If their are two of you shopping, split up & pick your favorites. Then meet back up & narrow them down to a couple.
- Pick at least three colors but not the rainbow, the rainbow will just leave you feeling overwhelmed. The one you headed in there to get, the "maybe", the wild card & one more you both(if there's two heads involved) agreed on.
- Always look at your paint chips in the location they will be painted. Lighting can trick you, BIG TIME.
- Remember darker colors appear darker & light colors appear lighter. To avoid a big problem, wasted money & time, buy samples sizes.
- If you are uncertain, paint a decent size sample in the location & view at different times of the day to be sure you will love your choice all day every day. Once the whole room is painted, the color always seems a little different then the small sample. So don't be scared to use your whole sample can if you like, to get a better feel of the final look, before you decide 100% on the color.
- Priming your walls correctly first will make your paint color look that much nicer. Don't skimp on the prep work, it can make or break your project.
- When it comes to trim, a nice clean light color to accent your walls can really brighten up your room & leave it feeling fresh. The same goes for a nice light & crisp ceiling.
- If you are short on time & money, you may find just painting your trim or ceiling can change the whole feel of your space.
Paint Finishes for each space:
- Walls: eggshell
- Trim: soft gloss, semi-gloss or satin
- Ceiling: flat
- Exterior Body: flat or satin
- Exterior Trim: satin
Happy Painting!
